How many, by age
The number falls faster than most people expect. A newborn goes through roughly four times as many diapers per day as a two-year-old, which is why the first three months dominate the total and why buying in bulk early is rarely the saving it looks like.

Why we don't print a price
Every "average cost of diapers" figure you find online is an average of one country, at one moment, across brands you may not buy. Prices differ several-fold between markets, pack sizes are not comparable, and the number goes stale within a season. So this planner asks for the pack you actually buy and the price you actually pay, and does the arithmetic on that. The result comes back in whatever currency you entered — we never convert or assume one.
Two things move the total more than brand choice. Pack size: the per-diaper price usually drops as packs get larger, so the comparison worth making is price divided by count, not price alone. Size timing: a baby who is between sizes wastes diapers at both ends — too small leaks, too large leaks differently — so moving up promptly is cheaper than finishing the box. The per-day figure is prefilled from your baby's age but is meant to be edited. Some babies genuinely need more changes, some families change less often once the skin tolerates it, and daycare often has its own routine. Your own count from a typical week beats any table. Everything here is calculated on your device — nothing is stored or uploaded.

How many diapers does a newborn use in a day?
Around 10 to 12 in the first month. Newborns feed often, their bladders are tiny, and a wet diaper needs changing quickly to protect the skin. The number falls steadily: roughly 8 to 10 a day from one to three months, 6 to 8 from three to six months, and 5 to 7 in the second half of the first year, as babies urinate less often but in larger volumes.
Why does this ask for my own pack price?
Because diaper prices vary enormously by country, brand, pack size, and whether you buy on offer — any figure we printed would be wrong for most people and out of date within months. Entering the price you actually pay for a pack you actually buy gives you a real number rather than an average of somebody else's shopping.
How many should I buy before the birth?
Enough for two to three weeks of newborn size, and no more. Babies vary in birth weight and some skip newborn size entirely or outgrow it within days, so a large stockpile of the smallest size is the most commonly wasted baby purchase. Buying the next size up in bulk is safer, since every baby passes through it.
Does this include night diapers or overnight products?
No — it counts total changes across the day, which already includes the overnight one. If you use a separate, more absorbent overnight product, price it separately: it is usually a different pack at a different price, so add its monthly cost to the figure here rather than folding it into the same per-diaper number.
How long will we be buying diapers?
Most children are out of daytime diapers somewhere between two and three and a half years, and night dryness often comes considerably later. That range is wide because readiness is developmental rather than scheduled. The yearly figure here is more useful for budgeting than any total-to-potty-training number, which depends on a date nobody can predict.
